Here’s an update on what I’m working on in September 2026. Writing and working on new art are on deck for this month.
What I’m working on – September 2026
I’m seeing September shape up to be a month of slow work and renewal. This summer is going to take me a minute to recover from. So while I’ll be working, I’m not going to try to set any land speed records.
I think my biggest news that isn’t even news yet is that I’ve been feeling on the verge of a biggish discovery with my work and I’m trying to wait patiently for what that is. I’m looking forward to some uninterrupted time in the studio to try and figure it out.
Where you can see my work
My work Into the Unknown both the book and the video will be in the Decatur Arts Alliance show “The Book As Art v.14: Ghosted.” It runs September 11 – October 24, 2026.
Sam and I are working on a short interview style video as a promo for the show so I’ll be sure to link to that when it’s available!
Open calls I’m working on
I spent a few minutes looking through the open calls and didn’t see anything that was a good fit for me. I was planning on mostly taking the rest of the year off from this process but also felt obligated to check what was out there. So now I can say I’ve done it!
I will be working on the Barbie Voynich piece this month for sure. I took a bit of a break for a week or so to regroup after moving Second Kiddo to college but I’m feeling called back to it. This is not for any specific call but I will be looking for something where it might fit over the next few months.

Paper Things
I’ve been doing a lot of journaling the past few weeks. I’m journaling about where I see my work going in this new chapter of my life. I’ve also been looking through my studio journals since I watched all of those Joan Snyder videos and her journals have been on my mind. And I’m realizing that I need to keep more technical information in my studio notes. What good are they if I can’t use them as reference??
Since I started my In Search of Alchemy series, I’ve been reading about tarot and I’ve been keeping a tarot journal. This is mostly so I can start keeping the card’s meanings straight in my brain. I’ve been pulling cards and writing about them. If you are keeping count in the home game, that brings my journal total to four that I’m writing in regularly for various reasons. Teenage Misty with her singular red 3-ring binder journal would be so impressed.
Currently I’m reading How to do nothing: Resisting the attention economy by Jenny Odell which is not what I thought it was going to be and I’m still reading and digesting it. I find it fascinating that Jenny is an artist and is writing about attention. I’m very much enjoying her perspective.
I put about ten books on hold at the library and so I guess this month I’ll be doing some reading! There are a lot of cookbooks because now that my household has shrunk, I need to learn to cook smaller. No more teens at my house to eat eight servings in two days!! But there’s also some books on rest and one on writing. I live for some non-fiction.
Crochet Things
I finally finished the Magpie shawl!! I’m so looking forward to wearing it this winter. Don’t be surprised if I put it on in November and don’t take it off until March.
I’m working on a top down pullover raglan sweater that’s made to fit. I have the most success with “made to fit” items so I’m hoping this one will be no different. It’s actually a really relaxing stitch pattern and for long stretches doesn’t need much thought. It’s a much needed break after finishing the very complex Magpie shawl.
Other things in progress
Writing! That’s what I’ve been doing! I didn’t write much at all over the summer but August had me writing like it was my job. I’ve got a ton of blog posts done and am continuing to write things as the ideas hit me. Love that for all of us!
Thank you for stopping in! Nothing on my website is AI generated. Not the art I make and not the words I write. If you’d like to keep up with what I’m working on, I’d love to have you as a newsletter subscriber. I include blog posts from here, cool things I find online, and occasionally pictures of my dog. Sign up here. Or if you want to drop me a note to catch me up on what you’re working on, email me here. Lastly, if you like what I do and want to support my work you can buy me a coffee.
