Working in my Wired to Create Journal and thinking about how traveling allows me to think differently about all kinds of things and gives me new visual material to use.

I’ve been calling this piece Goldie because this is a Golden Eagle. I found her in the Biodiversity Heritage Library, which is a rich cache of images that are all creative commons licensed. I downloaded the image and took her to my local copy shop. I had her printed on 11×17″ watercolor paper to use in this piece. Today I glued book pages down for the background.

So Goldie is probably going to end up with a good bit of gold on her. Funny how that works! I tend to get pretty messy with the paints sometimes. I used to feel bad about using my fingers because “real” artists use brushes and palette knives. But I have perfectly good tools at the end of my hands! So now I use them and wear the paint as a badge of honor.

Thinking about layout for Goldie.

Working in my Season of Music journal today. I’ve got all of these magical circles that Katie made. Loving them!!
And here’s the finished piece after I made an emergency trip to get magenta ink so I could print out the all black text of the song lyrics on the left. Why ink jet printers, why do you require ALL THE COLORS when printing black?

I love the first Mumford & Sons album. “Roll away your Stone” was my anthem during Lent a couple of years ago. It reminds me that grace can sometimes be very unexpected.

I’m still working on Goldie although, I’m just about to the end. Once she’s done, there will be no more excuses for not getting my paperwork done for my show. Deep breaths.
I love how your pages have so much depth! Thanks (again) for sharing your process! Looking forward to seeing the final product!
