Tag book flip throughs

I recorded some video flip throughs of some tag books I made in 2019 and 2020. They are short books with short videos.

I’ve made a handful of tag books but they are poorly documented on Instagram and they weren’t on my YouTube. I pulled them out the other day so I could skim them and thought it might be fun to do a set of talking flip throughs for the blog.

I had to do some digging to pull up the dates for these because it’s been a minute for all of them. I made all four of these books over the course of a year across 2019-2020. Turns out I was home a lot that year. And wow were those posts a looooong way back in my feed.

Also it’s important to note that three of four of these were made either in one sitting or over the course of a couple of days. Some of my books take years to complete. These tag books are pulled together quickly so they are often much more thematic than my work that might span months or years. The last video of the organic book took longer and I’ll talk about that in its section.

Radiant artist tag book

I name drop a couple of folks in this video. Katie did the hand lettering on the cover. The retreat was with Lauren, jump on her newsletter if you want to get notified about future retreats. And the heart/always sticker came from Amber and she still has them in her shop!!

I feel like I made this book almost immediately after the retreat to capture some of the joy and energy from being with other creatives. It was a good trip and I got to see a few old friends and make some new ones.

Feminist killjoy tag book

I feel like this doesn’t really need any explanations as the name sorta covers it. It is as advertised but you know, cutsie.

The pin on the cover came from Rebecca of Paper Bones. Debbie made one of the stickers I point out.

Looking tag book

Sometimes I’m looking through my paper bins and there will be some scraps that just catch my eye and demand attention. When that happens I start pulling them out and thinking about how I can use them together. I’m pretty sure that’s what happened when I made this book.

I name drop a couple of folks in this video too. Stickers are from Sarah and Katie.

Organic tag book

This book is a companion book to my Book of Trees and I made it during the Get Messy Season of Bloom. My Book of Trees journal was in a group art show in 2021 at the Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Solomons, MD. You can read about my adventure traveling to go see it here. If you go watch the Book of Trees video you can really see how they go together.

This book is also unique because I made the book and then put leaves in between the pages and boiled it before I started working in it. So it has a lot of botanical artifacts in it. And I made it over the course of a Get Messy Season which at the time I think was six weeks.

Funny thing is, I haven’t made a tag books since these. Maybe it was just a pandemic hobby. I don’t even know if I have any tags anymore.

Whatchu making right now? Catch up with me on socials, email me, or go old school and leave a comment on this post to be immortalized for all of time.
