I’ve been writing weekly on this blog now for more than a year. So here’s a little overview of my favorites from a year of posts.

A year of posts
I’ve been consistently posting on this website for over a year now. So there’s over 50 posts of me talking about some portion of my artistic and making journey. Here’s a few of my faves from the year of posts:
- I want to be around people who make things
I reflect on an Amy Poehler quote and how DragonCon friends epitomise the quote for me and push me to be my best “make things” self. - The bottom of my paper bin
Paper might just be my first love and my longest relationship. On little scraps of paper and loving the weird things you love. - Getting over the slump in the middle of a project
Let’s talk about the creative process and how the slump in the middle make us wanna quit. Be your own best hype person to get through it. - How my faith influences my art
I am an artist. I think I’m a Christian most days. But I don’t define my work specifically as Christian art. - Creativity and Grief
Where does my creativity and my grief meet? How do I use one to process the other? An exploration of how I use art to move through grief. - My Guiding Principles Process
Ten years in and I’m thinking about what has kept me making art. Some thoughts on my Guiding Principles process.
I have a whole bunch of posts in my Art AV Club series where I talk about artists who have influenced me.
And of course there’s my “How to Create Your art Practice” series which I hope you’ve read but if you haven’t you can dive right in with that link!
Thank you dear readers
I like to write about art making but it takes a lot of time to put out new content every week. I’ve taken a bunch of questions from my community over the past year. Your questions give me a great jumping off point for blog posts where I can really dig in to some topics that we are all thinking about. If you’ve asked a question for this blog, I appreciate you taking the time to formulate one and send it in!
Never be shy about asking a question! If I’ve already touched on your topic, I’ll likely send you a link where I’ve written about it. If I haven’t covered it before, it will go into my drafts folder for me to contemplate. Sometimes I am drawn to writing about a topic immediately and sometimes it has to percolate for a while. And I’ll always let you know when I’ve posted your question.
Summer 2023
It is the end of May as I am writing this and our family has a busy summer planned. I’m going to take a little break from writing here on the blog as we do all the things. My oldest just finished his freshman year of college and my youngest just finished tenth grade. I am feeling the clock winding down on their time at home so we are packing this summer to the brim.
I expect to be back here writing in the fall so as you think of things feel free to drop them in my inbox or tag me on socials. Have an awesome summer!
