Coming home from Chicago I had plenty of time to work on this shrug. I bought this beautiful yarn at a church rummage sale. The bag of yarn had seven skeins and a partially completed sweater in it. I reclaimed the yarn from the sweater and came up with a total of nine and a half skeins. I started making this shrug and realized that the back of the pattern produced this unexpected lotus. Since I love lotus flowers, I was thrilled when I realized what the pattern was going to look like.

I left this behind on Thursday in a state that I wasn’t particularly happy with. I felt like the red I had applied was way, way, way too heavy. I was stumped for a bit as to how to fix it but then realized I could sand it down with sandpaper. Once I’d roughed it up, I went back and added the yellow paint. It became something so beautiful in that process of sanding down and adding more color. There’s a metaphor in there somewhere, I’m sure.
Went on a bit of a journaling binge today. I found an old collage that was pretty pitiful and cut it up and used some of the parts for pages in my Get Messy Lists Journal. So fun!
Just messing around with some stamps and stencils. I love these little tiny letter stamps that Stephen got me for Christmas but they make a total wreck of my desk. I’m trying to come up with a decent storage system but so far, ‘pile on my desk’ seems to be winning.
This wasn’t a Stephen King quote I knew before I saw it on a fellow Get Messian’s Instagram feed and so I did what artists do and I stole it. I love this black and white page. I don’t know why I don’t work in black and white more often since I love it like I do.
Another day, another list. I’m pretty in love with these colors. And these tiny stamps. I love those too. After three weeks of working in this book, I like the way it is all coming together. It feels substantial when I hold it and if I add many more pages, I’ll have to put larger rings on it. I have one page that hangs out of the bottom pretty far but there’s no help for it. All in all, it’s turning into an interesting looking project.
Pretty low on brain power today so I decided to make some new pages for my art journal. This week has been so fun! Finished my commission and delivered it to the client this week. She loved it! You can read about Petal to the Metal here. So now I’m thinking about what to work on next. I’ve got a few ideas jotted down but need to ponder them a bit more. I’ve got a pretty open week next week so I might be able to really dig in on something. What are you working on?
I’m loving your pages in this seasons art journal!
Thanks! You are the BEST at commenting on people’s work! How do you get it all done!?! 🙂
I love what you accomplished last week. You have always been an artist. You put it on the back burner for a while and it makes me happy to see you getting back to it. I see you growing each and every day since you came back to it I am in the process of pondering a baby quilt I have next on my list. Then I MUST get down to 4 Mindcraft tee shirt quilts for 4 VIPs in in my life.
On another note, Pop and went to LR yesterday to see Bridges of Madison County at the Rep. We enjoyed it very much.
Sounds like you’ve been busy with your creative life as well! Can’t wait to see what you make next!
