Jane Austen

“Jane Austen”
(acrylic, collage, wax pastels, graphite, & antique cotton thread)
12x9x1.5″ gallery wrapped canvas, $125
This piece is for sale in my Etsy shop.

Women’s Work explores the theme of women’s traditional roles and how they choose to engage or not engage those roles. The women featured in these pieces and their stories are juxtaposed with crochet made by my maternal grandmother and my great grandmother, as well as new pieces I’ve made to further explore the line between traditional handicrafts and art. Jane is coming along nicely. This is part of a collection of pieces I am calling Women’s Work. What is the intersection of what women are traditionally allowed to do in society and what they dream of doing? This is Jane Austen, the English writer, being engulfed by a piece of crochet handmade by either my maternal grandmother or great grandmother. 🔸 #papercollageart #papercollage #analogcollage #artcollage #collages #collegeartistoninstagram #mixedmediapainting #visualart #southernwomanartist #artistsofalabama #createeveryday #abstractartpainting #collagemaker #creativewomen #lifeofanartist #womensworkcollection #crochet #crochetlover #crochetaddict #yarn #yarnaddict #yarnlover #mdgcrochet
