Gilding

I have always loved this quote from Madame Bovary, “Never touch your idols, the gilding will stick to your fingers.” It speaks to me of regret and loss. It’s a reminder that when you give something in your life too much power, that it will rebound on you and hurt. This lesson is one I have to relearn over and over again.
