Sketchbook flip through

Some notes and a video flip through of my sketchbook. This is a great premade watercolor sketchbook that I really enjoyed.

I started this journal on September 6, 2023 and finished it on January 19, 2024. This one is #MDGSketchBook on Instagram. There’s a sketchbook flip through video at the end.

A journal finished in four months? Most people said it couldn’t be done. Ok, no one said that. For me, four months is so fast as to be redonculous. Here’s a reel of an early spread:

I really tried to stay loose with this book. It has more sketchbook-like pages than any journal I’ve ever had. I’ve tried to draw more and process more and be experimental in a different kind of way.

This is a premade watercolor sketchbook I bought from Amazon in a two pack. And I have to give it 37 thumbs up. The paper in this sketchbook has been outstanding and stands up to my abuse quite well. I scribbled and scrubbed and added way to much water like I always do and this little beast took it all in stride. It is hands down the best watercolor book I’ve ever worked in. Now it is cold-press paper which means it’s absorbent and toothy. If that isn’t your game, then you prolly won’t dig this one. I personally like a toothy paper.

Sometimes my books have big overarching themes. This one is just a collection of things I was processing at the time and ideas I wanted to try out, notes, and color swatches. Sometimes it’s just about the colors and the feel of the paper, ya know?

I’ve had a lot of heavy this past week. A community I’ve been a part of for 10 years imploded. There’s been a lot emotional wreckage to navigate. So I was really struggling for what to blog about this week. Lucky for me this little book came through for me once more.

Anway, have a flip through video:
