A list of some of my favorite things on the blog from over the years. I hope you dig in and find something you need here.

I’m in the studio for Art Retreat Week but here’s some things you might like while I’m banging out the tunes*
Recently, I put together a list of some of my favorite things on the blog. And since it’s Art Retreat Week around here, this seems like a perfect time to share the list with you. If you are a longtime reader, you will likely know many of these but if you are newish to my blog you might not realize I’ve been blogging like it’s the early aughts for a whole lota years.
These days, I post a new blog on Tuesdays. I started consistent Tuesday posting in 2022. Before that, I was posting in a variety of ways, a weekly recap of things as I made them and then when I wrote on a specific topic. For a while I was posting on Tuesdays AND Thursdays but that didn’t last long because I don’t actually love pain. (I’ll note that there’s a number of broken links to Instagram all across my blog. When I deleted my Meta profile earlier this year, it cut all of those ties. Maybe I’ll go back and fix them some day but probably not. Link rot is real, yo.)
I’ve also been sortta kicking around my blog philosophy and as I’ve written here over the years that’s become a bit more clear for me. I want to share my experiences with my art practice in hopes it’s helpful to others. I share it freely because I am financially able to do that. I write instead of making videos because writing helps me sort out what I think and why I think it. The value for you is that there’s a huge store of experience and knowledge here for you to use, ponder, and hopefully enjoy, for free.
Previous Art Retreat Weeks
A few series
I have a series called “How to create your art practice” where I go through what I did to get my art practice started. This was originally going to be The Book I Wrote™ but then I decided why wait for publishing when I have my own blog right here?
I have a series called Art AV Club where I talk about some of my favorite artists and how they’ve influenced me. The post that started that series is here and it’s a particular favorite of mine. I worked really hard to find YouTube clips of the artists talking about themselves and their work so we have a sense of these actual people. Which of course, limits the age of the works to fairly modern stuff. Good thing those are my favorites!
I have an Artist Interview Series. Here’s the set up post for the interviews. I loved doing these and would be willing to start them back up with fellow artists. So if you’d be interested in answering my ten questions, shoot me an email!
Why I don’t have Patreon
Some individual posts I particularly like
Videos of me making things
Here’s posts that have videos in them of me working or showing off finished things. These videos are all on my YouTube channel so I’d love for you to smash that subscribe button! I love making videos of finished books and sharing those. I also sometimes get energized to set up my camera and film while I work on things. I hope these are entertaining and instructive for you.
What would you like to see me work on? I’d love to hear about it! Email me or start a conversation by leaving a comment on this post! If you’d like to keep up with what I’m working on, I’d love to have you as a newsletter subscriber. I include blog posts from here, cool things I find online, and pictures of my dogs. Sign up here.
