Out of office

Here’s a roundup from my blog while I’m out of office. It includes the most read posts from this year as well as some personal faves.

I’ll be doing some travel over the next couple of months so I’m going to be taking some time off from posting weekly blog posts. I don’t want you to feel like you aren’t getting a weekly dose of Misty though so I’ve compiled some “best of” features from the blog for you to read while I’m away. I’ll be back in October with some new posts!

Interview Series

I loved setting up this series! I got to chat with some outstanding artists and then share those chats with you all. These ladies are out there doing their work with a lot of love. And that love feels pretty contagious. Four of these interviews are in my top 20 for most views in the past year on my blog. So it’s clear that y’all loved this series as well. I hope if you missed any you’ll catch up now! (Use this link to see the interviews! I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to make these photos below clickable links and never could find the magic button. Harrumph.)

Flip throughs

I love doing videos of my finished books. It’s a ritual that signals the end of the work for me. It’s a nice little period to round out the process. It lets me see the whole work from a more zoomed out perspective. Here’s a few of recently finished flip throughs:

Tutorials

I don’t do tutorials very often. It’s an area that I feel is saturated with amazing stuff already. But every once in a while, I get an idea that I feel like is something that hasn’t been done much and I’ll put out a video or a downloadable file or an explainer video.

Here’s my Crochet Spine Tutorial post. It’s how I mod metal spiral bound notebooks with some yummy yarn.

Here’s the post from last week on Resistance art. At the end of the post is a downloadable PDF for you to carve your own stamp.

Here’s a breakdown of what supplies I travel with: What’s in my travel art kit.

And if you like to listen to music while you make art, here’s a couple of playlists for you to jam to.

On process

I really try and mix up what topics I bring to you all. I like to write in depth personal essays about my process but those take a lot of time and intensity. So I tend to mix those in with some lighter fair as we go along.

Here’s a two part series on Why I don’t have a Patreon or other paid services, Part 1 and Part 2. Part 2 is the second most read blog post I have from this past year. I talk about setting up and using a ko-fi account to help pay for The Workshop. Since I’ve discontinued The Workshop, I’ve taken down my ko-fi support button on my page.

Here’s another two part series on Creativity and Grief. Part 1 is here and Part 2 is here. As always, take care of yourself and if you aren’t in a place mentally to tackle grief please skip these.

I wrote about Vulnerability in January and it must have struck a nerve because it rounds out the top 5 of most read blog posts this last year.

And this one is just a personal favorite I’ve written this past year: What is it all for?

Big projects

I want to end on some big projects from this year.

I did my second annual Art Retreat Week and had a blast! Read about Art Retreat Week 2024 here and Art Retreat Week 2023 here.

I also limped through the 100 Day Project this year. Read about the start of the project here, here’s a midway update, and the project recap.

I’ve got so many other articles here on the blog. If you are looking for something to read, I hope you’ll hit the blog archives and find something that speaks to you! It’s organized in chronological order and stretches back to 2016.

As always, I love hearing from you all! Drop me a note if you have ideas that I want me to write about and I’ll either add it to my list of topics to pull from or send you a link of where I’ve written about the topic before! 😂 Catch up with me on socials, email me, or go old school and leave a comment on this post to be immortalized for all of time.
