Get Messy 2017 Creative Team Blog Hop

This past year, I’ve had the joy and honor to be a part of the creative team for Get Messy Art Journal. I’ve had so much fun creating projects for Messians to do and hanging out with the team. This is the last season for this group and we will all be rolling off of the team to do other projects in January. Today as sort of a last hoorah for our team, we are doing a blog hop. So my post today will be highlighting the amazing Vanessa Oliver-Lloyd.

V’s art was some of the first art that really caught my eye when I started looking at Get Messy. Since she’s an archeologist, her work is filled with transparent bones, ghostly images, and strong women. I decided to attempt to do a art journal page as an homage to her work.

Vanessa and I share a dedication to empowering women and her work is filled with images of strong women. As I went to look at my pile of magazines this image of Sophie Turner was on the cover of my latest copy of Entertainment Weekly just begging for the full Vanessa treatment. Vanessa loves TS Eliot too so of course I used some of his words from The Waste Land to describe this women on fire.

I feel like the outcome is a pretty decent merge of our two styles: her imagery with my collage. I’ve loved working with V and am sad that our year together is over. Check out more of Vanessa’s work with the links above.
