I only vaguely remember when I first heard an “om” in a yoga class. I thought it was weird, New Age-y mumbo jumbo while simultaneously feeling the sound of my own voice resonate in my chest and it making me feel more grounded and settled. Somewhere along the way I heard it called “The Sound of the Universe” and that phrase invokes some sort of wondrous, magic for me.

The idea of reuse in the context of an altered book while using found papers amuses me more than a little bit. Sometimes I giggle at the meta of what I do.

Vacation Bible School prep: It sneaks up on me EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. I think I have my ducks all in a row and then HELLO! Here’s something to cut. And something else to cut. And then two days later I realize I’ve been cutting since Sunday and there’s no end in sight. We always get it done and have a wonderful time but today was that moment when I was afraid we might not pull it off. And then I remind myself to do better next year. Which I never remember until about two months into prep when I’m panicking all over again.

So I read part of Joshua 4 this morning in my quiet time and I just loved the thought of this cairn standing tall and then families and communities talking about it, remembering the deeds God has done. I was thinking about how so many of us struggle to leave some sort of mark on this world and now in many ways the art that I do is my stack of stones.

Doing some design work for Global Women today. I’m currently serving as treasurer on the board of directors. I’m so pleased to be a part of this organization as we partner with women working with women and girls in Costa Rica, Cuba, Haiti, India, Moldova, Myanmar, Romania, Uganda, and Zambia.

A quick one today because I’ve spent the day working on the Global Women Display poster and an upcoming super secret guest blog post. I suppose if I’m going to be a regular blogger I should probably do more than just post my daily art work on this blog. I’m not sure how to stuff any more activity into my days though.

Thinking about the upcoming Season of Introspection for Get Messy. I’ve got two guest posts coming out on different blogs in the next 6 weeks-2 months and they have been a fair bit of introspection in and of themselves. I have my altered book all ready to go. It’s just waiting between now and Monday.
Hey Misty! Fellow Get Messian here. I follow you on Instagram, but just recently found your lovely blog! I thought of this question and then thought of you since I had just seen this post. Do you incorporate art journaling into your quiet time? It looks like that is what you did above, but somehow this idea just came to me. I would love to know more about your process. I have MUCH more to say about this, but will leave it there for now. 🙂 Thanks!
Thanks for your thoughts and comment. I’m going to develop this into a broader blog post but I will say this part now, I started this year writing the bible with Shannon’s Scripture Writing Plan. And doing that everyday (mostly) has brought scripture into my life in a more focused and constant way.
