An update on my 100 Days of Pantone Postcards project. See how it’s going and read a few thoughts about how I approach big projects.

100 Day Project update
I struggled at the beginning of this project to articulate the parameters. But once I started including my abstract drawings, I thought it clicked. I wanted to use it to experiment and really think about the size of the card and how to use the real estate.
I’ve been working on my 100 day project in batches because of the number of other projects I’ve got going on in March and April. I’m currently a tiny bit ahead of the 100 day schedule. But I’m expecting to fall behind in the next two weeks. After a couple of deadlines have past, I expect to catch up again. I knew this was going to happen because of massively overscheduling myself this spring. And I intentionally had a talk with myself about not being bothered by it. I’m so busy trying to get things finished that I haven’t even had time to be bothered by it. Thankfully.
I started out with matching cards to the colors I was using in the drawings. Which was fun for a while. But then I used up all the cards in colors I liked. After that easy beginning, it’s gotten harder to do. This past week I got into putting drawings on cards that were complimentary colors. I’m trying to be more adventurous in this later batch of color combos. I’m trying to be intentional about making adjustments on the fly and not just continuing to do the same thing when it feels stale.
Sometimes I think my drive to finish projects gets in the way of them being the best that they can be. And when I start thinking like that, I remind myself that done is better than perfect. Every project could be “better” if only I’d done some other magic combination of things. And that magic combination of things is always just out of my grasp.
I’ve got over 60 cards done at this point. As of this writing not all of them are posted on Instagram. If you want to see the others you can check out the hashtag 100 Days of Pantone Postcards 2024.
