Works showing in Spring 2024
One of my goals for this year was to enter my work for consideration in group shows. I set a goal of four shows for the year and I’ve entered three so far. I’ve gotten pieces into all three shows and I know that’s not a regular thing that happens so I’m beyond thrilled.
Calm Show at Huntsville Hospital
Two of those shows are in March here in Huntsville. The first is the “Calm” show at Huntsville Hospital:
I made a piece for this show because I’d been wanting to add Psalm 147:3 to my ongoing Modern Icons series. This piece is called “Binds up their wounds.” It’s a departure from my usual mixed media because the hospital asks that no cloth or fibers be in the open on the pieces for their shows. So I painted and drew this with my two widdle hands, people! It’s available for purchase for $90 with a portion of the proceeds to go to the Arts in Medicine program.
The Feminine ‘I’ show at Alabama A&M
The second piece will be in a show titled “The Feminine ‘I'”. It’s running from March 8 – April 12, 2024 in the University Gallery of the Morrison Fine Arts Building on the Alabama A&M Campus. There’s a reception on Friday, April 5 from 5-7pm and you can find more info about the reception on the ALWCA calendar.
“The Feminine ‘I'” show is a collection of how women artists see themselves. When I found out that was the theme I knew IMMEDIATELY that I wanted to enter “I pledge allegiance to me” from my very small collection called “Walk softly and carry this stick.” It’s also available for purchase for $300.
Embracing Art XXII at the Carnegie Visual Arts Center in Decatur, AL
This show at the Carnegie Visual Arts Center will be open April 16-May 25, 2024.
My work Ground from the Ground series will be on display with many other North Alabama artists and I couldn’t be happier about it!
This piece will be available for purchase for $500.
